It was exactly ten years ago that we first saw Jemek Jemowit on stage at Simon-Dach-Str. in Berlin-Friedrichshain. Everyone was blown away by the young man with Polish roots who grew up, and grew tall, in Gropiusstadt (Neukölln). At that point, he was just at the beginning of his now-ten-year career as a solo entertainer and producer of Elvis Presley- and Suicide- informed electro-rockabilly.
Jemowit's credo seems to be "life is too short for just one genre"; to this day, he's involved in musical universes as disparate as new wave/beat, disco polo (the Polish variety of Eurodance), rap, and trap – and, no matter the style, always presents an explicitly political message. For Pop-Kultur, he celebrates his own career with a self-moderated, commissioned gala work enriched by lots of guest appearances. Rightly so!
