Do the flagbearers of the Tinder generation even really know what a dive bar is, or are they too busy gentrifying the Kiezkneipe around the corner? This question will have to be answered elsewhere, but what’s certain is that Tobias Bamborschke is a modern-day anachronist. His first collection of poems bears the subheading »Poems, Thoughts, and Dives«. The 29-year-old with heavy eyes and a hoarse voice is best known as the singer and second guitarist of the brilliant band Isolation Berlin.
In this role, Bamborschke writes texts of fervour, anger, and despair. His language is blunt, peculiar, and sometimes lonely, but it’s always also enthralling. The same goes for his poems. Look no further than the title of the work in question, from which Bamborschke will read at our festival: »Mir platzt der Kotzkragen« [»I’m Bursting With Vomit-Anger«].
