Talk with Shirley Collins, Paul Williams, Rob Young & Rob Curry

Folk, the traditional music of Great Britain and the English-speaking world, has its origins in the early 18th century. Some songs are still sung until today, others are forgotten. The British singer and music collector Shirley Collins is one of the formative minds and voices that characterised a vital English Folk revival after World War II. The film producer Paul Williams and the director Rob Curry accompanied Collins, now over 80 years, during her recent comeback and got back with a gentle, vivid portrait about her.

»The Ballad of Shirley Collins« documents the life of a great folk singer, and chronicles her unfortunately mostly forgotten role as a collector and documenter of rural sound worlds. Now the »high queene (sic) of English folk« invites you to an audience with her, Williams, Curry, and the journalist and author Rob Young to discuss the importance of English folk music. They will also screen scenes from the yet unreleased movie as well as touching footage that (for different reasons) didn’t pass the final cut.

This event will be held in English.
