»Safe! Meaningful! Honest!/ Social! Modern! Happening!/ Slippery! Messy! Hectic!/ Spiritual! Moving! Heartfelt!« – the initialed name of the Berlin collective SMH leaves plenty of room for interpretation. One thing, however, is for sure: they meet regularly at the little Kreuzberg club St. Georg to dance the night away. The atmosphere is always exuberant and friendly. Meanwhile, co-founder Brat Star has established herself as a celebrated DJ in the Berlin scene.
The Montreal native aspires towards a new Berlin sound that has nothing to do with dark techno and riverside house. It’s an open-minded, unconventional, radical aesthetic. With Brat Star there’s everything from dancehall to minimal wave, hip hop, pop, and italo disco. Let her set during the festival, after the panel of the associated collective We Make Waves, be a case in point.
